PoliMi Sailing Team / Politecnico di Milano, Italy

The PoliMi Sailing Team was born in 2007 thanks to the collaboration of teachers and students from the Design, Aerospace Science and Technology, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Chemistry departments of the Politecnico di Milano. Since then, there have been a number of changes: the team members, the technology used for designing boats and, this year, the competition we are taking part in. But, through years of constant evolution and innovation, one thing never changed: our passion for sailing and the idea that a more sustainable sailboat design is possible.

PoliTo Sailing Team / Politecnico di Torino, Italy

Polito Sailing Team is a group of students from Politecnico of Turin involved in the design, construction and sailing of sailing prototypes. We decided to take part in the Foiling SuMoth Challenge in order to apply what we have learned through the years by projecting skiff to a different boat such as a moth. This will allow us to study the complex dynamic of foils, components that the team hadn't had the possibility to study so far. We also find the material constraints and the processes imposed by the rules of the contest very interesting, because they will let us explore new building techniques and new projecting solutions, in order to include the use of recycled elements

Mothis Vela UniPd Team / University of Padova, Italy

The Mètis/Mothis Vela UniPd, which is a group of research established at the University of Padova, Italy. As a team, we have been working since 2008 with Mètis Vela where we designed, built and sailed five skiffs, three of which are made of composite materials. Our goal is to design and manufacture competitive sailing boats focusing on innovative materials and working techniques while paying attention to their environmental impact, learning how to reduce, reuse and recycle. We have joined the SuMoth Challenge as it is a great opportunity to experiment with state-of-the art technology related to composite materials in a challenging environment; therefore we want to use the expertise acquired during the years in Mètis Vela and starting from there we are going to try to explore new possibilities with the foil appendix.

Rafale ETS sailing Team / École de Technologie Supérieure, Montreal, Canada

RafaleETS, formerly known as Rafale Class-C, is a student design team of the École de Technologie supérieure, ÉTS, in Canada. The team created in 2013 and originally focused in the 27th CClass Little Cup in Geneva 2015 had the goal to design and manufacture the first ever student-made CClass Catamaran, with its goal achieved successfully. In 2018, with no further prospect on the CClass, the team had made a "tack" into the new adventure of the Foiling SuMoth Challenge.

UniPV Sailing Team / University of Pavia, Italy

UniPV Sailing Team is a project born from the passion for the sailing world of many University of Pavia’s students, with the objective of applying the theory learnt during classes with the practical experience of creating a whole project as a team, with its design and management implications. When it comes to competitiveness, for such strong communities like Sailing Teams, it is impossible not wanting to compare yourself to others. We can just do it through a fair european university team competition, like the SuMoth Challenge, with an equal simulated project fund for each team, of 10000 SuMoth dollars, that accounts for the environmental impact of materials and process the boat is made with.
