6TH Edition
Lake Garda - 2024

What happened at the 2024 SMC?

The 2024 SuMoth Challenge in its 6th edition saw 11 total registered teams coming from Italy, Sweden, UK, France, and Canada. Stage S1 saw Audace Sailing Team, PoliMi Sailing Team, Soton SuMoth Team and PoliTo SULA coming with upgraded concepts from previous years and putting lots of innovation into making better their ideas. On the New Concepts (NC) side of things, 2024 saw seven teams coming with SuMoth concepts that went from a conservative state of the art SuMoth from UniCa Sailing team making a boat in record time, to Iridium SuMoth from Solent University putting together a concept that has no hull.

Stages S2 and S3 with Performance and Racing respectively, 7 teams were ready to race against the GPS and on fleet races, giving the most nail-biting moments with multiple photo-finish regattas.

Highlights

The highlights of the 2024 Foiling SuMoth Challenge included, as usual, a great example of camaradery

The Foiling SuMoth Challenge concept is based on the applied research and developments. From an organisational perspecrtive, the outcome of the challenge is always positive. The time, effort and passion the teams put into their concepts is a vivid example of the sustainably-oriented solutions used to achieve the final prototype.

As usual, the Jury was surprised with many out-of-the-box ideas on Stage S1, many put into practice in the manufacturing phase of S2.
