Innovation, collaboration, sustainability - on and off the water.

What is the SuMoth Association?

The SuMoth Association is an international platform driving innovation, sustainability, and education in the marine industry. It brings together students, researchers, universities, and industry partners to collaborate on applied projects, research initiatives, and sustainable marine solutions. By fostering hands-on learning, experimentation, and knowledge exchange, the Association empowers the next generation of innovators to shape a cleaner, smarter, and more responsible future for sailing and naval technology.

OUR PEOPLE

Our Story

The SuMoth Association was born from a simple but ambitious idea: to reimagine what high-performance sailing could be faster, smarter, and sustainably oriented. Its roots trace back to 2018, when Bruno Giuntoli, fueled by his experience designing and building a C-Class catamaran within an academic environment, recognized a gap in how students could engage with cutting-edge marine innovation. He envisioned a platform where young engineers, designers, and researchers could take bold ideas from concept to water, learning by doing while respecting the planet.

From this vision, the SuMoth Challenge emerged, and shortly after, the SuMoth Association was established to give structure, continuity, and community to the growing initiative. The Association became a hub for collaboration between universities, students, and industry partners, providing mentorship, resources, and opportunities to experiment with sustainable materials, life-cycle thinking, and circular production methods.

But the Association is more than logistics and support it’s a living laboratory of innovation. Every boat, every design iteration, and every race is a chance to test new ideas, push boundaries, and prove that performance and sustainability can coexist. Students gain hands-on experience in naval architecture, hydrodynamics, composites, and foiling technology, while partners and institutions benefit from applied research with real, tangible results.

Today, the SuMoth Association stands as a community, a catalyst, and a vision. It connects passionate students, forward-thinking universities, and industry leaders in a shared mission: to shape a marine industry that is innovative, responsible, and sustainably oriented. Guided by the principles of its founders, it shows that with purpose, collaboration, and creativity, the next generation can sail towards a smarter, cleaner future.
