UniCa Sailing team is coming back

As we dive into the new year, the Unica Sailing Team is thrilled to announce our participation in the Foiling SuMoth Challenge (FSMC) 2025. Our motivation to return to this competition stems from a collective desire to push our limits and explore new frontiers in the world of high-performance sailing. We are more determined than ever to take on this challenge with enthusiasm, perseverance, and a shared commitment to innovation.

Team Motivation: Rising to the Challenge

At Unica Sailing, we are a group of university students united by a passion for sailing and an eagerness to get involved in a self-directed project. Building a racing boat like the Moth requires both creativity and technical expertise, which is exactly what drives us. But beyond the thrill of competition, our main motivation lies in the opportunity to challenge ourselves and grow both personally and professionally.

Our involvement in FSMC 2025 goes beyond just the competition. We are motivated by the chance to acquire new knowledge and skills, especially during the design and construction phases of the boat. The process of comparing ourselves with other students from around the world is an exciting prospect—learning new concepts, exchanging ideas, and building relationships that will broaden our horizons.

Equally inspiring is the opportunity to interact with industry experts, allowing us to absorb specialized knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of the field. This engagement will offer us invaluable insights into how the sailing industry operates, both practically and professionally. The chance for personal and professional growth pushes us to adapt to new situations and collaborate effectively with those around us, creating a dynamic and unified team.

Building the Future: Skills and Sustainability

For many of us, being part of Unica Sailing means stepping into a professional environment for the first time. We are excited to learn how to meet deadlines, manage assignments, and take on responsibilities in a way that prepares us for the future. The hands-on experience of designing, building, and testing a high-performance boat is a unique opportunity that will equip us with skills that go far beyond the classroom.

At the core of our mission is a desire to contribute to a more sustainable future in the shipbuilding industry. Through FSMC, we aim to spark more research into alternative materials and promote greener practices in boatbuilding. We are particularly focused on exploring materials with different chemical and physical properties than those currently in use, testing new applications that could reduce the environmental impact of boat construction.

By engaging with this competition, we hope to inspire other faculties and young people to take a deeper interest in sustainability. We believe that innovation and technological advancement in this field are crucial to ensuring a greener future for the industry. FSMC is the perfect platform to showcase our ideas and contribute to the movement toward more sustainable sailing practices.

Why We’re Excited to Compete at FSMC 2025

At Unica Sailing, we are more than just a team; we are a group of motivated individuals eager to transform our ideas into reality. Competing in FSMC 2025 is not just about building a boat—it’s about creating something that represents our collective effort, creativity, and determination. The Moth is one of the fastest and most technologically advanced boats in the world, and the thought of bringing our own design to life is incredibly exciting.

What drives us is the belief that with determination, commitment, and teamwork, we can achieve anything. As one writer famously said, “It is the quality of one’s convictions that determines success, not the number of followers.” This sentiment lies at the heart of our project. It is a personal and collective challenge for us to overcome our limitations, push the boundaries of what is possible, and prove that hard work and collaboration can lead to remarkable results.
