PoliTos’ road to SMC25: Victoria 2.0
This season, the PoliTo Sailing Team is setting sail with one clear mission: to bring Victoria, our Moth-class boat, to the next level at the SuMoth Challenge 2025.
The SuMoth Challenge unites student teams worldwide to design, build, and race IMCA Moth class foiling boats. SuMoth, short for Sustainable Moth, reflects the competition’s focus on innovation, hands-on learning, and sustainably oriented practices.
The SuMoth Challenge envisions a world where classroom theory meets real-world innovation. By guiding teams through cycles of design, building, and testing, it inspires students to push the limits of performance, embrace sustainable practices, and transform ideas into high-speed, hands-on sailing experiences.
From the ground up and fueled by passion, each team designs, builds, and tests its own boat from concept to launch, applying sustainable oriented materials and production methods to reduce environmental impact. Teams are evaluated not only on speed and performance, but also on engineering quality, creativity, and sustainability.
More than a competition, the SuMoth Challenge is a collaborative research platform where ideas are tested, technologies validated, and the next generation of innovators gains practical, high-performance experience. Through its inclusive approach, the Challenge also seeks to address gender inequalities in the marine industry, encouraging diverse participation and empowering all students to take the lead in shaping the future.
Since its inception in 2018, SuMoth has challenged student teams from around the world to push the boundaries of sustainable foiling technology. Each edition showcases the creativity, skill, and determination of our participants — from concept to applied reaserch on water.
The current 2026 SuMoth Challenge on its 8th edition is underway, with teams racing to innovate, test, and excel. Explore past editions to see how ideas evolved, teams thrived, and sustainability advanced in every challenge.
SuMoth is more than a competition, it’s a collaborative platform where students, universities, industry experts, and partners come together to design, build, and sail sustainable foiling boats.
