Velox Sets Sail: A New Chapter for TU Delft x Dutch Sail
With a rebrand, rapid growth, and a full build campaign ahead, Velox enters the 2026 SuMoth Challenge with renewed ambition.
The SuMoth Challenge unites student teams worldwide to design, build, and race IMCA Moth class foiling boats. SuMoth — short for Sustainable Moth — is a competition, a research platform, and the fastest learning environment in sustainable marine engineering.
Teams are evaluated not only on speed and performance, but on engineering quality, creativity, and the true environmental footprint of every decision made. There is no shortcut.
The SuMoth Challenge envisions a world where classroom theory meets real-world innovation. By guiding teams through cycles of design, building, and testing, it inspires students to push the limits of performance, embrace sustainable practices, and transform ideas into high-speed, hands-on sailing experiences.
Each team designs, builds, and tests its own boat from concept to launch, applying sustainably oriented materials and production methods to reduce environmental impact. Speed matters — so does every material choice made along the way.
SuMoth is a collaborative research platform where ideas are tested, technologies validated, and the next generation of innovators gains practical experience. Results go into the public archive. Next year's teams start from here. Through its inclusive approach, SuMoth also works to address gender inequalities in the marine industry.
Eight editions. Teams from around the world pushing the boundaries of sustainable foiling technology. Each edition builds on the last.
SuMoth is a platform where students, universities, industry experts, and partners come together around a shared belief: that the future of the marine industry needs to be built differently.
Work hands-on with real constraints, real deadlines, and real impact. Join as a student team and compete across all three stages — or enter S1 only to build experience for future editions.
